Alchemical Psychology:The Art of Transformation

My passion for the Arts of Transformation has been a driving force in my life for as long as I can remember. Through Carl G. Jung, I discovered the profound relevance of Alchemical Psychology as a practice capable of triggering profound, authentic, and lasting movement and change in a person.
After decades of clinical work under the direct guidance of James Hillman, the father of Archetypal Psychology and author of the alchemical work titled “The Art of Working with Fire,” I have distilled a method for others to discover their own version of this perennial wisdom, through teachings that are both experiential and theoretical.
Today, my psychotherapeutic vision and practice are defined by my understanding of Alchemy, the art of transformation I know best. My goal is to share this knowledge so that others may discover and apply its secrets in both their personal and professional lives.
What I share is what I have practiced for decades in my practice and through my teaching experiences in Mexico, South America, Europe, Australia, and Russia.
Method: Sound Imagination

The Alchemy of Image and Voice

My method, Sound Imagination, is based on the recognition that the most authentic transformation occurs in working with the Imagination, the psychological structure that shapes our life experiences, and through creative work with Sound – the auditory aspect of the vibration that shapes all that exists – using our own Voice.

This is a transformative method based on Alchemical principles, put into practice through two complementary paths:

Imagination: Dream Alchemy

Instead of applying interpretive logic, we seek to learn how dream images reveal themselves on their own. We aim to go beyond what we think about an image to discover what it wants to unveil to us, in service of renewal in our daily lives.

Sound: Voice Alchemy

The human Voice is the “muscle of the soul.” Beyond simple communication, the Voice has the ability to alter the mental, emotional, and energetic state of both the speaker and the listener, as it operates at a vibrational level that affects all dimensions of our being.

“This alchemical work transforms the raw material of our life experience into the pure gold of authentic expression.”

Ethos

My commitment is to be and act as an orienting mirror, and a catalyst for processes of deep and continual transformation. My work lies at the intersection of two great maps of transformation: Alchemy and Ancestral Mexican Wisdom, two ways of addressing the same process.

Rather than something to be repaired, I understand the human psyche to be a living organism that navigates through Images, and is transmuted through sound, particularly that of the Voice.

I also recognize transformation to be an encounter between the psychological and the spiritual, in which every symptom brings with it a necessary truth. My work is to hold a space in which the unknown ceases to be a threat … and becomes a teacher.

Alchemy

“What hurts us is not something that needs to be ‘cured’ in the medical sense, but ‘cooked’ in the artisanal sense.” ‘curado’ en el sentido médico, sino ‘cocinado’ en el sentido artesanal.”

James Hillman

Understood as an art of transformation, Alchemy is not merely a study of the past – it is a living methodology for working with the raw material of our own existence.

Its fundamental principle of “Dissolve the Coagulated and Give Form to the Dissolved” points to something essential for transformation, for when we manage to dissolve our rigid identity structures, we find and give form to new ways of being and Being in life.

One of the key aspects of Alchemy lies in its ability to show how, by altering our internal configuration (our imagination), external reality surrounding us begins to reconfigure itself. “Opus contra Naturam.” Alchemy is intentional work, a conscious effort to go against the inertia of our behavioral habits so that we can cease to be victims of our circumstances and become artisans of our own destiny.

In times of uncertainty and fragmentation, such as those we face today, Alchemy offers guidance and ways to be more conscious, creative, and constructive in our lives.

Mexican Wisdom

Model of Ancestral Knowledge

“The wisdom of our ancestors is not a museum piece; it is a way of understanding life today, which we need more than ever to restore balance. It is not about returning to the past, but about bringing the values of harmony with nature and respect for life that they perfected into the present.”

Arturo Meza Gutiérrez

A Mother Culture is a foundational civilization that serves as a model for those that follow, influencing their technologies, social structures, and spiritual practices. It is a legacy born of a careful differentiation of the Universe and its fundamental laws.

Mexico is a mother culture whose wisdom is necessary and relevant to today’s world, a lineage of tradition that connects us to more than 10,000 years of human wisdom, expressed through diverse indigenous cultural expressions.
Both Alchemical Psychology and Ancient Mexican Wisdom inspire my work with Images, and with the vibration of Sound, particularly that of the human Voice.

Testimonials

“Sven is a kind of modern-day Virgil,
here to guide us through dark times.”

Diego del Río, Milan, Italy

“What is most challenging about working with Sven is
that if he does not catch and challenge you in your thinking,
he does so with somatic awareness, or emotional sensitivity …
one cannot escape facing what one wants to avoid – and
experience an inner transformation, with inevitable
constructive effects in the external world.”

Tom Crockett, North Carolina, EEUU

“Sven´s invitation to me was to let him teach me how to
go from fearing my feelings and emotions to learning how
to use them to be sensitive to myself and to others, and
to go from complaining about things into creative and
constructive actions in relation to them.”

Paola Gonzalez, Buenos Aires, Argentina

“What most surprises me is the reach of Sven´s work with me,
as it is obvious how the changes in me have had constructive
effects on most everybody that I come into contact with,
beginning with my family and close friends.”

Carlos Gómez Alcatráz , Mexico City, Mexico

“Working with Sven is like being initiated into how all outer
events have an effect and resonate with our inner experience –
but how the true work of transformation is when the work
with the inner has an effect on the external world .

Shujo Hernandez, Mexico City, Mexico

“What most helped me with Sven was the clearly genuine
interest that he had in getting to know me – far more than
I had myself.”

Curt Schmitt, Dallas, Texas, USA

“More than a psychotherapist, Sven is an artist in the way
that he guides one into finding one´s own way .”

Guida Gastelumendi, Lima, Peru
